Today, Andy Firth (mentioned by Donald) easily makes himself heard on a small bore, very laid back design Buffet Tradition model. The Clarinet BBoard. I returned home today from a month long trip to New Mexico and was messing around with my other clarinet and the Vandoren B45 mouthpiece. Just out of curiosity I put the B45 on my Buffet E11. Instantly the sound became darker, fuller, and richer, and improved tuning. The clarinet neck strap tends to pull the horn toward your body, so the load on your thumb changes from "UP" toward your upper teeth to "AWAY" from your body. It is a lighter load on your thumb. I worry that the kiddy tootlers are damaging their right forearms, but are resilient enough to be unaware of it. Bob Phillips.
