It is a slow-progressing disease that often goes unrecognized in the early stages. The most common early signs of Cushing's disease include: ‌ Increased appetite ‌ due to high cortisol levels. This can result from the body making too much cortisol, or from taking medicines called glucocorticoids, which affect the body the same way as cortisol.Cushing’s disease does not offer a great prognosis, especially as vets only discover most cases at the end stages of the condition. The decision often rests on the cost of treatment, the projection of a good quality of life, and the horse’s function or value.The late stages of Cushing’s in horses become visible in the horse’s body condition and frequency of bouts of laminitis.
